Tip: Invest in a butter crock to keep your butter sticks fresh and soft.

There is quite a debate around whether sticks of butter should be kept in the fridge or not. If stored in the fridge it becomes too cold to spread easily; if left on the countertop there is the risk of it going bad.

A solution is to invest in a butter crock. This is an airtight container which will allow you to keep your butter out at room temperature. Butter can be stored this way for several weeks without spoiling. Butter softens at around 15 degrees celsius (a refrigerator is usually set to around 1-3 degrees). This makes keeping your butter at room temperature an obvious choice if you want to be able to spread and measure your butter easily. If your room temperature goes above 23 degrees celsius however, then it’s time to refrigerate your butter!
