Built In Kitchen Bins

Nothing spoils the effect of your stylish new kitchen more than an untidy and overflowing kitchen bin. Lark and Larks offers a selection of built in kitchen bins that are simple to use and very effective. Some integrated bins are hidden behind base unit doors, while others are pull out units that utilise the interior space of the cupboard itself. As the pressure to recycle increases, we can supply segmented or divided kitchen bins for easy waste separation.

Are Fitted Bins Better than Freestanding Bins?

The quick and simple answer to this question is ‘YES’! If you’ve worked hard on your fitted kitchen, spent money on high quality cupboard doors, floor tiles, and splashbacks, and have strived to maintain a breathtakingly beautiful kitchen that’s the heart of your home, a place for cooking, socialising, and dining, the last thing you want is a waste bin ruining the style. Even the most careful of cook can’t avoid splashes as empty sauce packets get thrown in the waste, and constant touching of chrome lid leads to fingerprints that can be tricky to wipe clean. Additionally, as clean and tidy as we try to be, who has time to tie the bag up, take it outside, and replace with a clean bag every time the bin starts to get full? We’re all guilty of letting the kitchen bins overflow at some point or another, and this is certainly not a good look for any kitchen! Built in bin units are by far the superior choice. They keep the waste out of the way, they’re discreet, and they won’t divulge your messy habits to visitors! Here are just some of the options you have to choose from:

Automatic Pull Out Bins

If you’re quite a hands-on cook, you’ve probably noticed that opening up a bin and getting the rubbish in can be tricky when you’ve got your hands full. Automatic pull out bins solve this problem, and make it easier for busy homeowners who are trying to juggle a million things at once to maintain a tidy home. Automatic pull out bins are mounted to the inside of your cupboard door, but are also connected to the door hinge. This means that as the cupboard is opened, the lid raises to expose the opening of the receptacle. These are very cost effective options, and the containers are removable from the fixings so it’s simple to change the bin bag or clean the bin out before replacing.

Pull Out Bins

Pull out bins are fitted on rails inside a base unit cupboard. Once the cupboard door has been opened, the bins can be pulled out of the cabinet interior via a handle, allowing adequate access due to the full extension rails. Pull out bins are available in sizes ranging from 10 litres to 68 litre capacities depending on the size of your base units and your waste requirements. Pull out bins tend to be more costly than automatic pull out bins, but they’re larger so can hold more waste, and are more integrated into your kitchen, giving you a smooth, flowing look even when the bin is on display. As with automatic pull out bins, these models can be removed from the rails to empty and clean as needed, with no need to remove or replace the rails or mounts themselves.

Low Pull Out Bins

Low pull out bins are perhaps the ultimate compromise between cupboard space and bin space. One of the disadvantages of pull out bins is that they take up space in a cupboard that could be used for storing other items, as storage space in kitchens can sometimes be sparse. Low pull out bins really are the best of both worlds, and are ideal in small kitchens were maximum storage space is necessary. Low pull out bins are attached to the bottom section of a base unit door, and are exposed by sliding the door outwards from the cupboard, rather than opening sideways via a hinge mechanism. The bottom of the cupboard is used to house the bins, while a shelf placed half way up can be used as additional storage. Of course, you wouldn’t want to store foods or other consumables next to waste materials, so it’s perhaps a good place to store cleaning products or kitchen cloths, for example.

Under-Sink Kitchen Bins

The cupboard under the sink is often the least utilised storage space in the kitchen. Due to the hanging of the basin, the cupboard is often a strange shape inside and many people opt not to fill the space as it can then be difficult to gain access to the pipes should anything go wrong, such as a leak. Under-sink kitchen bins are an excellent idea. They are specially designed to fit into the oddly shaped gap under the basin, and can really make use of the space that’s there without compromising on pipe access. The automatic pull out bins are attached to the inside of the door and can easily be removed meaning you can access the underside of the basin in seconds should you need to.

Tilting Kitchen Bins

If you’ve got solid back doors on your kitchen cabinets, you may want to consider a tilting kitchen bin. The receptacle is attached to the back of the solid door, and both the door and the bin tilt forwards from the top edge. These kitchen bins are not only very handy, but they’re also very streamlined and very discreet, so they’re an excellent addition to contemporary and modern kitchens that benefit from a continuous flow.

Door Mounted Kitchen Bins

If you’re working to a tight budget, look no further than door mounted kitchen bins. Yes, they’re simple, they just attach to the back of a cupboard door, but that doesn’t mean they’re not highly effective. If you’re just looking for a suitable way to get your traditional bin out of the way, off the floor, and yet still maintain good access, this is the option for you. There’s no difficult or complex fittings or materials required, and you can even opt for an automatic version that lifts the lid when the door is opened so you don’t have to get your hands dirty. You can purchase door mounted kitchen bins for less than £10, so you really can’t go wrong!

Recycling Bins

There’s pressure on all of us right now to ‘go green’ and to reduce the amount of waste we produce while increasing recycling. Dedicated recycling bins make it easier for households across the UK to do their part for the environment. Recycling bins are often segregated, with one area for general waste, and another for items that can be recycled, but you can also purchase bins that are divided even more so, allowing for separate compartments for plastics, metals, and papers, for example.

If you’re looking for a new bin for your kitchen, make it an integrated bin. They’re neat and tidy, and they’re not costly, either. In fact, some freestanding bins can cost more than their fitted counterparts! Browse our website and find an integrated bin to suit you.
